President James Buchanan's memorial in Meridian Hill Park includes an elaborate chair with an eagle detail, and long benches, not shown here, to seat visitors to the park. The large memorial to an uncelebrated President is due to the bequest of his niece, who served the unmarried president as White House hostess. Created by Hans Schuler and dedicated in 1930.
