This urn memorializes the death of Americans aboard the USS Maine in Havana harbor in 1898 and expresses Cuba's eternal friendship with the US. Originally on display in Havana, the urn was presented to President Coolidge in 1928 and installed in front of the Cuban Embassy. The urn disappeared sometime during the Cold War until 1998, when it was installed at an obscure location between the Potomac and a parking lot.
