This sculpture honoring Major General Comte Jean de Rochambeau is one of four Revolutionary War memorials across the street from the White House in Lafayette Square. As commander-in-chief of the French Expeditionary Force, Rochambeau helped the Continental Army win independence from the British. This statue by Fernand Hamar was a gift from France and dedicated in 1902.
