This detail of the east side of United States Capitol building shows the reproduction of the original sandstone "Genius of America" pediment by sculptor Luigi Persico, and the lower columns of the cast iron dome. This dome, the second created for the building, was designed by Thomas Ustick Walter and completed in 1866.
