Samuel Gompers' significance in American history as the founder of the American Federation of Labor (AFL) is memorialized here with allegorical figures: two men clasping hands depict Unity and Cooperation while the two standing women represent Justice. Gompers is seated with a female figure representing the home and a male figure representing education at either side. Robert Ingersoll Aitken sculpted the memorial, which was dedicated in 1933.
