President McKinley, recently kicked out of Alaska, was also frozen out of his status as money. That's his face on the $500 bill, now a collectible rather than cash. McKinley is more famous for being killed in office than for empire building, yet he kicked Spain out of Cuba and made Guam, Puerto Rico, The Philippines and Hawaii possessions of the United States. He has no monument in Washington, unless you count this school, but helped supporters of alternative medicine place a large monument near the White House.
The McKinley name is popular for schools, even fictional ones. But he's unloved by some in Arcata, CA, where he's stood since 1906.
